Warning! Spoilers are ahead!

Geoff Johns wrapped his nine-year Green Lantern run with a bang!

This massive tale featured the conclusion of the “Wrath of the First Lantern” storyline and showcased the future of several of the franchise’s key characters.

Before readers had the chance to see if Hal Jordan survived his long fall off the Dead Zone, Johns took the audience to a future where we learned that Hal Jordan’s tale was the key to keeping the Green Lantern Corps alive. In addition, Johns also took us on a quick Green Lantern 101 that explored the classic Silver Age origin, Hal Jordan’s turn to the dark side and the crucial stories from Johns’ nine-year run.

Afterwards, the Bookkeeper transported readers back where both Hal and Sinestro were at their lowest. Luckily, for our heroes, two surprising sources of power, gave them boosts of power to help them against Volthoom.

Some of the best surprises in the finale came in the form of an all-star artwork team that included penciler Doug Mahnke, inkers Christian Almay, Keith Champagne, Tom Nguyen and Mark Deering and colorists Alex Sinclair and Tony Avina. Past Green Lantern collaborators Ethan Van Sciver, Jerry Ordway, Patrick Gleason and Ivan Reis also returned to the title to contributed to the celebration.

From seeing multiple fan-favorite lanterns unite against Volthoom to the return of the Black Lantern Corps with their surprising leader, the Green Lantern art team delivered incredible moments throughout this astonishing finale.

In addition, Johns gave readers unexpected but fantastic moments including Sinestro controlling Parallax, Hal’s reunion with his father in the Dead Zone, Nekron’s brief resurrection and the Guardians getting their just deserts at Sinestro’s hands.

Of all the memorable dialogue that Johns written in the Green Lantern series, it was Hal and Sinestro’s final exchange that will strike a chord to longtime fans:

Sinestro: Before I release Parallax, I will use his power to take me far from here. I will leave you forever. But before I do….You were going to ask me a question, Jordan. Long ago, when we were trapped on Ysmault and we both believed we’d die. But you never did. What was it?

Hal: Were we ever truly friends?

Sinestro: That’s the tragedy of all this, Jordan. Hal. We’ll ALWAYS be friends.

Hal and Sinestro’s final exchange marked the end of an era in many ways. It was the “final” time that the two adversaries would work together and Geoff handing the Green Lantern franchise to the next generation of creators, who have the difficult task in following in Johns’s trail. A+

Amanda Brown is the latest performer to have “A Conversation” with Jake’s Take.

The 27-year-old singer-songwriter from The Bronx already had several opportunities that would make many performers envious.

Among those opportunities included performing on world-renowned venues around the country including the Apollo Theater, Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall.

In addition, Amanda had the privilege and honor of working with numerous recording artists including Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Lenny Kravitz and Adele as a background singer.

Most recently, viewers got a chance to know Amanda, as she was part of the third season of the NBC hit singing competition: The Voice.

I had the opportunity to sit down with Amanda and she talked about her career and her time on the ratings juggernaut.

Jacob Elyachar: When did you first get interested in music?

Amanda Brown: Music was a part of my upbringing. I loved church and there was lots of music around. For as long as I can remember, I really enjoyed listening music and singing.

JE: Who are your musical influences?

AB: While I was growing up, I listened to a lot of Christian Contemporary artists. But when I was six-years-old, my mother bought a Mariah Carey cassette tape and I listened to that repeatedly. When I went to high school, I got into jazz and classical music. I also listened to a little bit of pop. The artists I loved listening to included Sarah Vaughn, Radiohead, Bjork and Paul Simon.

JE: One of your many highlights in the beginning stages of your career was when you performed “At Last” on “Showtime at the Apollo.” Could you please describe your experience performing on the Apollo Theater stage to my readers?

AB: It was great. The Apollo is a famous theater that tons of world-renowned musicians have performed on. I think for me, just to be able to have that opportunity to perform on stage was incredible. In addition, to have the opportunity to be on a show that was so well-known and popular and get as far as I did, it was really memorable. “At Last” is a classic tune and I was young, excited and it was an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I will never forget.

JE: You had multiple opportunities to work with a diverse group of recording artists. How did you become interested in working with these artists?

AB: I was working at a gig and I met a saxophone player. I knew he played for Alicia Keys. While we worked together, I joked with him one night and said: “If she ever needs another background singer, she could call me.” (Laughs) He actually said that Alicia was hosting auditions for a background singer the next day. He made it possible for me to bypass the line and go up and audition. I got a couple of call backs and eventually got the gig.

JE: What were some of the lessons that you learned from the artists that helped out your career?

AB: One lesson that I learned was that this industry (the recording industry) is not an easy industry. In order to accomplish the things you want to do, you have to work VERY, VERY HARD day in and day out. You are always, ALWAYS working. You cannot be doing this for the money or the fame, because there are going to be days when you are tired and do not feel like doing anything and that is what I saw first hand by working with these artists. Yes, it is hard work and stressful at times but they love it so much, that it keeps them on track. That was the hugest lesson that I learned from them.

JE: What were some of the factors that led you to audition for “The Voice”?

AB: A friend of mine actually set up an audition for me. I was never really a huge fan of reality singing competitions and I never really said to myself that it was not something that I wanted to do. However, my friend pushed me to do it and I am glad that I did it. It was an amazing experience. I met so many awesome people and I am very fortunate to have been a part of the show.

JE: You performed Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie” at your Blind Audition. What was going through your mind when Cee Lo Green turned his chair around?

AB: Before I went onto the stage, I said to myself, if no one turns around, no one turns around. If all of them turn around, all four (coaches) turn around. I wanted to just enjoy myself and entertain the crowd, so I tried not to look at the coaches during my audition. When I saw Cee Lo at the end of my performance, I was so happy because he is very talented and is a great Alternative artist. I thought that we would be a great fit.

JE: Throughout the Voice’s third season, you produced incredible vocal performances. For example, in your Battle Round, you covered Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love” with your former teammate Trevin Hunte in a performance, which was the third season’s best battle. Were you surprised that Cee Lo paired you with Trevin?

AB: No, I would not say that I was surprised about the pairing. I really did not know what to expect for the Battle Rounds. I knew that Trevin and Cee Lo had this awesome bond since Trevin joined Cee Lo’s team and by the way, it is very difficult letting go of anybody, but decisions had to be made. I just wanted to give a really good performance and not be just two people yelling at each other.

JE: After that battle, Cee Lo chose Trevin to represent him in the Knockout Rounds. However, Adam, Blake and Christina were “manically” hitting their buttons to steal you. I remembered hearing Adam (who gave you a standing ovation on his chair) said that no matter what happened, he wanted to work with you. Did his selling point sold you or was there something else that made you decide to join Team Adam?

AB: I knew what I wanted to do as an artist and what direction I wanted to go in. I wanted to try some things that were out-of-the-box musically and that viewers did not expect coming from a young African-American girl, who grew up in church.

Amanda’s cover of the Aerosmith classic “Dream On” was not only one of the best performances of Season Three, but was nominated for a Reality Wanted Award for Best Performance. (Photo courtesy of Amanda Brown)

JE: Before we continued the interview, I wanted to congratulate you on being nominated for the 2013 Reality Wanted Award for Best Performance for your cover of “Dream On.” (AB: Yes! Thank You!) That was the best performance from Season Three. (AB: Aww…Thank You! That was so nice of you to say that.) How did you pick that song? Was that Adam’s idea for you to sing it? Or was it a collaborative effort?

AB: That song was probably the first song that was 100-percent my idea. I wanted to sing that song ever since I got on the show. What lot of viewers do not know is how difficult it is to get certain songs cleared on these kinds of shows. At times, you have to compromise with the song that you sing. I really fought hard to sing “Dream On” and I am glad that I was able to perform it.

JE: Of all of your performances from your time on the show, a lot of viewers saw your vulnerable side when you performed “Stars.” Were you hesitant to tackle the Grace Potter hit?

AB: Adam, the producers and I were sitting in a room and throwing song ideas back and forth. Then, Adam said: “I want you to listen to this song and see what you think.” So, I listened to it and a minute into the song, I immediately liked it. The lyrics are very strong and a bit sad and I knew it was going to be an emotional performance. “Stars” is a beautiful song that people should hear and I wanted to perform it for a number of reasons specifically because it is a great song.

Among the artists that Amanda Brown collaborated with on “The Voice” included R&B star Ne-Yo. (Photo courtesy of Amanda Brown)

JE: Do you have any highlights from your time on the show?

AB: I think performing “Dream On” was the most amazing experience from my time on the show. It was a song that I really enjoyed, wanted to sing and it made me feel great because I fought for that song since the beginning of my time of the show. The Voice was an awesome learning experience for me and to be able to work with both Adam and Cee Lo plus perform on national television every week, you cannot beat that.

JE: You are currently working on an album. How long have you been working on this album?

AB: I was working on a project before I got onto The Voice. It was something that I wanted to do for myself initially and I had a couple of things that I wanted to say. Once, I was done with the show, I returned to the studio to finish up that project. It is going to be a very interesting project. I am working with a photographer to pair each song with great images and I am excited about that. I also had the opportunity to work with some incredible producers and writers after I got off of the show and I worked on some really great songs that I am very excited about. I wrote a lot of music and I have to decide which ones going to be released first. (Laughs) I am also very excited to have the opportunity to perform these songs live.

JE: While we are on the subject of performing live, have you thought about touring?

AB: Definitely! I would really like to visit some cities where I have a few friends that cannot make it to New York or Los Angeles. I want to visit cities where there is a lot of musical activity going on all the time. I would also like to drive across the country and do a couple of shows. I would also like to go to Europe. I am looking forward to planning a tour.

JE: If you had the chance to meet with aspiring artists and musicians, what advice would you share with them?

AB: I would advise them to hone their craft and your artistry. In addition to honing your craft, artists need to know what they want to do and what they want to say.

By: Jacob Elyachar

On Saturday, the WBFF (World Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation) will invade the Midland Theater in Kansas City, Missouri.

This marks the third time that the WBFF Central US Fitness Show has visited the Kansas City area and multiple competitors are hoping to not only to take home the top prizes in five categories: Bikini Model, Male Fitness Model, Female Fitness Model, Muscle Model and Figure, but to earn their pro statues as well.

“We wanted to show a different type of competition show in Kansas City,” said Micah Lacerte, a WBFF Pro & the organization’s Midwest Regional Co-Director. “If you go to the typical bodybuilding shows, they are very similar across the organizations, but if you go see a WBFF show, it is fashion meets fitness.”

Among the competitors that will be taking the stage on Saturday includes Hitch Fit trainer Ellie Gundelfinger, who entered the show because she wanted to challenge herself.

“I wanted to get up onstage to prove to myself that I could do something that was outside my comfort zone.” Said Gundelfinger.

Another factor that was important to her decision to enter the competition was what the female competitors do during the show.

“I saw all of the YouTube videos and saw how much fun the girls had on stage.” Gundelfinger said. “They got to do the Diva walk, wear gowns and feel like a Victoria’s Secret model.”

When Gundelfinger first stood on the WBFF Central US Fitness Show stage, she noticed a surprising transformation.

“I am normally a very free-spirited person,” Gundelfinger said. “But when I got onto stage, a diva personality took over. I walked like I never walked before and I posed. It was a great experience for me.”

Another competitor and fellow Hitch Fit trainer, Sean Van Horn, competed in multiple bodybuilding shows before participating in the WBFF show, stated that there was one overall factor that helped him make his decision to enter the contest.

“The judges do not judge just your body,” said Van Horn. “They look at the whole package (your stage presence, charisma and marketability). “

Van Horn placed in the Top Four in his category (Muscle Model) and has learned from the lessons from his last show to help him prepare for his second go-around.

“I really feel like that this will be the year I will get my pro status and take the Muscle Model category.” Van Horn said. “You never know who is going to show up, but I am bringing my very best.”

In addition to the Muscle Model category, Van Horn also set his eyes on another special award.

“The WBFF Central Show has an award for Best Stage Presence.” Van Horn said. “I have been practicing my special moves that I will be doing on stage and how I want to energize the crowd.”

But Van Horn is not the only competitor that has his eyes on one of the WBFF Central Show’s prizes and improving their placing in the show.

“Last year, I placed in the Top 10.” Gundelfinger said. “I want to not only place in the Top 10 again, but I want to show off some more confidence on stage this year.”

However, both Hitch Fit trainers face some stiff competition in order to reach their goals.

“We expect over 200 athletes from around the globe to be on stage.” Lacerte said. “This is an awesome event that we (wife and WBFF Midwest Regional Co-Director, Diana Chaloux) love doing. There is simply nothing like it (The WBFF) out there.”

By: Jacob Elyachar

Tomorrow, the final Green Lantern issue written by Geoff Johns will be released.

For nine years, Geoff Johns rebuilt the Green Lantern universe from the ground up and made the franchise a rival to the Superman, Batman and Spider-Man lines.

Part two of my tribute showcases the most memorable moments from Brightest Day to the Wrath of the First Lantern storylines.

Atrocitus in New York! (Green Lantern Vol. 4, #54)

The Red Lantern leader took the Big Apple by storm as he began to look for the Rage Entity that was hiding on Earth. While he searched, Atrocitus and his fellow Red Lantern Dex-Starr, became “crime fighters” as they fought and defeated robbers on the New York City subway.

A Lobo Brawl (Green Lantern, Vol. 4 #55)

DC’s fan-favorite bounty hunter fought it out with Hal, Carol, Sinestro and Atrocitus in the Big Apple. This remains one of the best fights to come out of the Brightest Day storylines.

As the Star Sapphires celebrate their new queen, Carol Ferris, Larfleeze lamented that he wanted to be the “queen.” (Artwork property of DC Comics)

“I Want to Be Queen” (Green Lantern Vol. 4, #57)

This was possibly one of the greatest lines ever mouthed by Larfleeze throughout Geoff Johns’ Green Lantern run.

Krona Revealed (Green Lantern Vol. 4, #60)

Throughout the Brightest Day storyline, a mysterious figure gathered all of the Corps’ guardians in order to make a big move on the universe. Hal unmasked this threat to be Renegade Guardian Krona, who had big plans for all of the Corps that unraveled in War of the Green Lanterns.

Krona’s Defeat (Green Lantern Vol. 4, #67)

Hal Jordan and Sinestro faced one of the biggest tests of their careers as they tackled the Renegade Guardian for the fate of the Green Lantern Corps. In a surprising feat, Hal’s willpower kills Krona and two consequences happen: Sinestro gets Hal’s ring and Hal is banished to Earth by the Guardians of the Universe.

The Indigo Tribe’s dark secret was revealed during the fifth volume of “Green Lantern.” (Artwork property of DC Comics)

The Dark Secret of the Indigo Tribe (Green Lantern Vol. 5, #9)

While on the run from the mysterious Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan ran into the Tribe’s co-creator, Natromo, who created the Indigo Tribe with Abin Sur. Unfortunately, the co-creator revealed to our hero that the Indigo Tribe members were some of the worst criminals in the galaxy before they were cleansed of all their wickedness.

Green Lantern Annual, Vol. 5 #1

This whole issue was an emotional roller coaster ride that started with Black Hand’s conversation with Hal to the Guardians of the Universe’ treachery in action as they helped the arch-villain “kill” Hal and Sinestro.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-3561" alt="Simon Baz became the first Arab-American superhero to wear the Green Lantern ring. (Artwork property of DC Comics)

Simon Baz’s debut (Green Lantern, Vol. 5, #0; 13-14)

One of the most controversial story subjects that made headlines in the entertainment industry was Simon Baz’s introduction. Simon is the very first Arab-American to take the prestigious ring. Unfortunately, his first day was on a trial-by-fire basis as the Justice League and the Third Army confronted him.

What are some of your favorite memories from Geoff Johns’s Green Lantern run?

By: Jacob Elyachar

Tonight, The Voice’s Top 10 battled it out for your votes!

As the pressure rose, each of the coaches brought back their mentors to assist their contestants. (Side note: Since Shakira’s advisor, Joel Madden, is currently in Australia filming their version of The Voice, the Latin Superstar brought former coach Cee Lo Green as a guest mentor.)

How did the contestants do? Your Voice recap starts right now….

Team Blake’s Holly Tucker was the first contestant to take the Voice stage. The Oklahoma native decided to give her gospel standard “How Great Thou Art.” While I recommend to contestants not to mix religion and music on television, Holly delivered one of her best vocal performances on the show. A

Judith Hill tackled the artist that she last worked with as a background singer: Michael Jackson. At first, Judith was very torn about performing this song as she worked with the King of Pop before he passed on in 2009, but she overcame it and delivered a sultry cover of the MJ standard. Right now, I bet MJ was smiling down on Judith from heaven as he watched this! A+

The Swon Brothers tackled Randy Houser’s “How Country Feels” this week. I am very impressed with their growth. They transported the audience to a Nashville stage and rocked out the stage. I really hope that the Oklahoma duo continues to improve because they have the chance to get into the Semi-Finals. A-

19-year-old Amber Carrington tackled former Voice mentor Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway.” Adam saw her as an artist like Kelly, who could do both country and pop music. While the vocal was not as flawless as usual, Amber still entertained the crowd and potentially has the chance to move on to the Top Eight. B

When I heard that Sasha Allen was covering Emeli Sande’s “Next to Me,” I was worried for her. American Idol had their top girls Candice Glover and Amber Holcomb (who performed with Emeli Sande at the finale) perform this song out. Luckily, Sasha made it her own and delivered a stunning cover that showed off a lot of fantastic vocal runs. A-

One performer that I have little expectations from each week is Team Usher’s Josiah Hawley. From what I have seen over the past couple weeks, he DOES NOT COME OFF AS HUMBLE. In addition, he is not a good vocalist nor a guitar player as he showed during his cover of Coldplay’s “Clocks.” He just stood there and looked pretty. Wake up, America! He IS NOT THE VOICE, he is just a pretty face! F

The youngest competitor still in the competition is Danielle Bradbury. She shared a special moment with Blake’s guest mentor Sheryl Crow as the Grammy Winner shared her breast cancer story with her and advised Danielle to find someone in the audience to focus on while she sang this song. This was an okay cover and I thought Danielle could do better. C

Team Shakira’s final performer of the night was R&B crooner Kris Thomas. With the help of former Voice coach Cee Lo Green, Kris channeled his inner Ladies’ Man as he tackled Miguel’s “Adorn.” This was full of vocal runs and great swagger. However, during the Coaches’ Comments, both Adam and Usher wanted him think less, but the latter thought it was very entertaining. B+

Sarah Simmons tackled Jessie J’s “Mamma Knows Best.” There is only one word to describe this performance: WOW! I am so glad Sarah showed off her hard rock skills and she stole the night with her astonishing vocals! A+

Team Usher’s Michelle Chamuel had the privilege of closing the show. Her mentor decided to give her P!nk’s “Just Give Me A Reason.” The Indie artist took on the challenge and gave an intriguing cover of the two-time platinum certified hit. Michelle delivered a solid vocal and I hope that she continues to grow as a performer in the coming weeks. B+

Tomorrow night, Shakira & Usher will perform with their teams and the Bottom Two will be eliminated!

Geoff Johns ends his massive nine-year run on Green Lantern.

The DC Comics Chief Creative Officer single-handedly revolutionized the Emerald Warrior’s universe by rejuvenating classic characters (Sinestro, Black Hand and Nekron), creating new corps (the Red Lantern Corps, Sinestro Corps) and roped the entire DCU into Hal Jordan’s world.

Here are some of the best moments from Green Lantern: Rebirth to Blackest Night.

Hal Jordan vs. Sinestro (Green Lantern: Rebirth #5-6)

The archenemies squared off for the first time in years during the latter half of the mini-series that brought Hal Jordan back to the Land of the Living.

It was the punch seen around the world as the Dark Knight sucker punched Hal Jordan. (Artwork property of DC Comics)

Batman owns Green Lantern (Green Lantern, Vol. 4 #9)

During Green Lantern: Rebirth, Bruce confronted the recently resurrected hero and received a punch in the face from the Emerald Guardian. When the Caped Crusader teamed up with Hal to take on the new Tattooed Man, Batman got even by punching Hal in the face.

The Lost Lanterns Revealed (Green Lantern, Vol. 4 #11)

When DC Comics jumped a year into the future after Infinite Crisis, the superstar writer brought back several classic Green Lanterns including Boodikka, Hannu, Tomar-Tu and Laira, who were presumed dead after the events of Emerald Twilight.

The Sinestro Corps tries to recruit Batman (Green Lantern, Vol. 4 #17)

The Caped Crusader got a surprise invitation to join the Sinestro Corps. While the Yellow Power Ring tried to symbiotically bond with the Dark Knight, his previous exposure to the Green Lantern Ring and Batman’s willpower overpowered the ring.

<img class="size-full wp-image-3550" alt="Sinestro gathered several of DC Comics' most greatest villains to serve as the core of the Sinestro Corps. (Artwork property of DC Comics)

A Quintet of Evil (The Sinestro Corps Special)

Readers experienced a huge shock when they saw the final page of The Sinestro Corps One-Shot. The Sinestro Corps core members included Sinestro, Parallax, Cyborg Superman, Superboy Prime and their guardian: the dreaded Anti-Monitor.

Lethal Force (Green Lantern, Vol. 4 #23)

For the first time in its history, the Guardians of the Universe announced that they were going to lift their ban on lethal force in order to combat the Sinestro Corps.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-3549" alt="Atrocitus and the Red Lantern Corps have gone from major Green Lantern enemies to questionable allies. (Artwork property of DC Comics)

Rage of the Red Lanterns (FC: Rage of the Red Lanterns & Green Lantern, Vol.4 #36-38)

Atrocitus and the Red Lantern Corps reared their ugly heads in during this story arc. Meanwhile, Hal Jordan meets Ganthet and Sayd’s new group of guardians: the Blue Lantern Corps.

Larfleeze (Green Lantern, Vol. 4 #39)

The gluttonous Agent Orange made his first full appearance during the title’s Prelude to Blackest Night story arc. Since his debut in the monthly Green Lantern title, he appeared in multiple DC Comics and made his television debut on the Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

Parallax Revisited (Green Lantern, Vol. 4 #50-51)

During the Blackest Night, the Black Lantern Spectre prepared to judge Hal Jordan. In order to save the Spectre, Hal became Parallax once again and saved the Hand of God from its dark influence.

Sinestro briefly bonded with the White Lantern Ring to save everyone from Nekron in the final chapter of “Blackest Night.” (Artwork property of DC Comics)

Sinestro Wears White (Blackest Night #7-8; Green Lantern, Vol. 4 #52)

Sinestro’s road to redemption started when he bonded with the White Entity in hopes to save the universe from Nekron. While Nekron defeated him and it took the strength of several superheroes to defeat the Blackest Night baddie, Sinestro showed what it took to become a hero, which evolved into a major story in Johns’ final two years on the title.

Part two will be up tomorrow and keep an eye out for Green Lantern #20 coming out this week!

Thousands auditioned. Only hundreds headed to Hollywood. 40 headed to Las Vegas. But only 10 were able to make it to the Live Shows.

However, only two could battle it out to become the 12th American Idol.

By the time, the night was over…. the victor would be either Kree Harrison or Candice Glover. Who won? Read on to find out…

Before Ryan read the crucial result, the finale was filled with an all-star cast of finalists and musicians that included Top 40 favorites The Band Perry (who performed with Janelle Arthur) and Jessie J (who performed with Angie Miller), music legends Frankie Valli (who performed with the Top Five Guys) and Aretha Franklin (who performed with the Top Five Ladies via Satellite) plus Idol alumni including Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson (who performed with Angie Miller and Candice Glover respectfully).

For the first time in four years, the right winner won this show!

Jake’s Take wants to congratulate Candice Glover for winning this season and wishes both Ms. Glover and Ms. Harrison….all the best with their future careers!

By: Jacob Elyachar

Tonight, either Candice Glover or Kree Harrison will walk away as the winner of American Idol: Season 12.

Before Ryan reads the highly anticipated results and the show pays tribute to outgoing original judge Randy Jackson, here are 12 of the greatest moments that rocked the finale stage of the long-running FOX singing competition.

Kelly Clarkson: “A Moment Like This” (Season One)

This was the moment that changed Reality T.V. forever as Kelly Clarkson performed her coronation song as the very first American Idol. Fighting back tears, she gave a great vocal and thanked the fans and fellow competitors throughout this special moment.

Clay Aiken: “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (Season Two)

The eventual Season Two runner-up delivered the best vocal performance in the history of Reality T.V. Clay Aiken’s cover of the Simon and Garfunkel classic showed spunk, impeccable vocal gymnastics and received a standing ovation from Randy, former judge Paula Abdul and the entire audience.

There was not a dry eye in the house when Fantasia won “Idol’s” third season (Photo property of FOX)

Fantasia: “I Believe” (Season Three)

In a season full of divas, the powerful R&B superstar was the last diva standing and successfully delivered her coronation song that continues to be one of the most memorable moments in of the Randy-Paula-Simon era.

Carrie Underwood: “Inside Your Heaven” (Season Four)

During the fourth season’s Top 11 week, former judge Simon Cowell foreshadowed that the Oklahoma native would not only win her season, but will outsell any of the previous winners. Nine weeks later, Simon was right as Ryan announced that Carrie won Season Four. As viewers saw Carrie fight back tears as she sang “Inside Your Heaven,” little did they know that she would stand at the top of the charts and be the number one American Idol alum in album sales.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-3540" alt="Elliott and Mary J. Blige’s duet at the 2006 finale remains one of the best duets in “Idol” finale history. (Photo property of FOX)

Elliot Yamin & Mary J. Blige: “One” (Season Five)

The Season Five third place finisher set the standard when it came to performing with superstar musical guests. His duet with Grammy-winning superstar Mary J. Blige was the highlight of the night because their voices blended well together and they made U2 proud.

David Archuleta: “Imagine” (Season Seven)

David made a strategic move and reprised his outstanding cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine” that made him the year’s biggest teen heartthrob and the guy every girl wanted to date. Unfortunately, a certain other David won the competition and started a streak that (finally) ended this season.

The American Idol Season Seven Girls & Donna Summer (Season Seven)

Season Seven’s Top Six girls joined forces with the late Queen of Disco in a medley that featured several of Summer’s classics and her single: “Stamp Your Feet.” Of all the performers that collaborated with the contestants in groups, Donna treated the girls as equals and shared a moment with Syesha Mercado that she would never forget.

Adam Lambert: “A Change is Gonna Come” (Season Eight)

Idol creator Simon Fuller chose soul legend Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” for Season Eight’s runner-up to sing. While it was full of Adam’s signature vocal licks, this performance started a conversation about equality around the world that we desperately needed to have.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-3537" alt="Former "Idol" winners and multiple finalists paid tribute to Simon Cowell during the ninth season finale.
The Idols & the Alums: “Together We Are One” (Season Nine)

When Simon Cowell announced he was leaving the judges’ panel after nine seasons, Idol producers brought back seven of its’ winners and most memorable alums to pay tribute to the man, who put the show on the map. A majority of Idol’s viewers considered this tribute, the end of Idol’s nine-year dominance in the ratings.

Haley Reinhart & Tony Bennett: “Steppin’ Out With My Baby” (Season 10)

One of the show’s best girls in the post-Saula era teamed up with the music industry’s elder statesman to deliver a rousing and crowd-pleasing cover of the Irving Berlin standard.

Steven Tyler: “Dream On” (Season 10)

The Aerosmith front man and former Idol judge delivered an outstanding cover of his signature song during the Season 10 finale. His performance of “Dream On” also threw down the gauntlet to other singing-based Reality T.V. show’s judges to see if they could match his performance.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-2689" alt="Jessica Sanchez and Jennifer Holliday's show-stopping duet of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" was one of "American Idol's" greatest moments.
Jessica Sanchez & Jennifer Holliday: “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” (Season 11)

It was a diva team-up as Season 12’s golden girl teamed up with Grammy and Tony-winning singer to deliver the best contestant-superstar duet, this show has ever seen!

By: Jacob Elyachar

Tonight, Candice Glover and Kree Harrison will take the NOKIA Theatre stage to perform for the title of American Idol.

In honor of this momentous event, here are the best 10 performances from this season of Idol.

10. “Rocket Man” by Charlie Askew

One of the most charismatic boys this season was Charlie Askew. While he was awkward and stated that he “glorifies weirdness,” Askew made himself a fan-favorite when he performed Sir Elton John’s “Rocket Man” during the Sudden Death Rounds in Las Vegas. While Charlie was sadly eliminated during the Top 20 Rounds, his legacy as being one of the most creative guy contestants will live on in Idol history.

9. “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me” by Candice Glover, Amber Holcomb & Angie Miller

Candice, Amber and Angie paid homage to both Diana Ross and the Supremes and the Temptations, when they tackled the Motown icons’ collaboration: “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me.” This was the best trio performance of the season because the arrangement allowed each girl to shine plus their voices blended well together.

8. “A Moment Like This” by Amber Holcomb

Amber Holcomb began her climb to the Top Four when she tackled Kelly Clarkson’s coronation song during the Music of the Idols week. Amber looked and sounded like a superstar-in-the-making and started to gain momentum to get her in the latter weeks of the show.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-3529" alt="Curtis Finch, Jr. took "I Believe I Can Fly" to new vocal heights. (Photo by FOX’s Michael Becker)

7. “I Believe I Can Fly” by Curtis Finch, Jr.

The Gospel singer took R. Kelly’s signature song to new vocal heights during the Top 20 as he showed off his complete range that earned him a spot in this year’s Top 10.

6. “Circle of Life” by Zoanette Johnson

While Zoanette had the most controversial audition in Idol history, the Liberia native stole the Las Vegas Rounds with one of the best covers of “Circle of Life” in Reality T.V. history.

5. “Ready for Love” by Burnell Taylor

The New Orleans native chose to cover India.Arie’s “Ready for Love” for his victory song on the Top 20 Results night that received a standing ovation from Randy, Nicki and Keith.

4. “Lately” by Amber Holcomb

Amber Holcomb paid homage to the great Stevie Wonder during Top Eight Week. Her vocal performance was spotless and she was the only person to receive a four-judge standing ovation on that night.

3. “When You Believe” by Candice Glover

Candice showed a lot of spunk when she tackled not one BUT TWO divas during Top Five week. She gave everyone chills and made both the late Whitney Houston and Idol judge Mariah Carey (who was clearly moved) proud.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-3060" alt="Angie Miller shined tonight during the "Sudden Death" round and was one of the girls that made it through to America's vote.
2. “You Set Me Free” by Angie Miller

During the final solo round in Hollywood Week, Angie took a huge risk and performed her original song, “You Set Me Free.” Despite hearing the “WOWs” of the Dawg, Angie raised the bar for future Hollywood Weeks. There are several rumors going around the Internet that Angie will perform this song on Thursday’s finale. This will definitely be a highlight if it comes true!

<img class="size-medium wp-image-3531" alt="Candice's show-stopping cover of "Lovesong" was the best vocal of the season.
1. “Lovesong” by Candice Glover

Candice Glover’s interpretation of the Cure’s “Lovesong” was the best performance of American Idol: Season 12. This featured Candice at her finest and she not only received a personal confetti shower from Mariah but four standing ovations from the judges (Keith Urban “bowed down to her”).

What were your favorite songs from this season?

I have fine memories of reading The Great Gatsby in Mrs. Kathy Duggan’s English class seven years ago at Blue Valley Northwest High School.

My classmates and I would take turns reading F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel that was full of idealism, elitism and self-indulgence.

When movie fans and literature lovers heard that famed director Baz Luhrmann was going to bring this magnificent novel to life…. they were divided.

Would the Australian director be true to the American classic or would this new world that merged Fitzgerald’s tale of love and deception with the sounds of Jay-Z and hip-hop ruin the film?

Actually, the two polar opposites blended well together throughout the two-hour and 23-minute film.

In addition to the all-star soundtrack and Craig Armstrong’s superb score, there were several things that made this adaptation successful. The first item was the chemistry between the three main actors (Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire). Between the lust of Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) and Daisy Buchanan (Mulligan) and the growing friendship of Gatsby and Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), the trio’s chemistry is one of the main driving forces of the film.

Another strong piece of evidence was the cinematography. Simon Duggan brilliantly brought East Egg and West Egg to life throughout the film. Several big cinematographic achievements in this film included Gatsby’s party scenes (which were perfectly choreographed) and the orgy that Nick attended with Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton).

Last, but certainly not least, the final important of the film was the screenplay. Luhrmann and Craig Pearce stayed true to the novel by showing all of the characters (Hello Owl Eyes!) and planting a majority of the Great Gatsby’s text into the film’s dialogue.

However, there was only one problem that I found from watching this film. The first problem is the film’s length. The moviegoer’s mind might wander through some parts of the film that includes the driving scene with Gatsby and Carraway plus Tom’s scenes involving his infidelity. If Luhrmann made the decision to get straight to the point, the film would have easier to follow at times.

Final thoughts and grade: Overall, this film was an honest adaptation of Fitzgerald’s classic that showed off the dark side to the rich and famous lifestyle that everyone wanted in the Roaring Twenties. B
